Garden Pavilion in Asserbo
The brief for this barely 10 m2 “reading nest” required a simple structure that would not only be flexible in use, but that could be dismantled at any time and re-erected in a different location. For that reason, the timber-frame pavilion was prefabricated in its entirety in the workshop and set on pier foundations in the garden. Only the windows had to be com-pleted on site. The flexible single space can accommodate a number of functions: inbuilt shelving provides room for books; one can read, write and eat on the folding table; the top-hung window can be used as a protective canopy in rainy weather; and the bed folds down from a recess in the wall. Above this, a roof light affords a view of the sky and the top of a nearby cherry tree.
