Youth Centre in Hagenow

In this conversion of a tank hall into a youth centre, the spatial divisions and technical installations were executed before the architects were called in to complete the interior design – by which time, the generous sense of space of this concrete skeleton-frame structure had already been destroyed. Colours and forms were used to give the new spaces an identity of their own. The yellow-orange bistro radiates a bright, friendly atmosphere. The midnight blue of the disco lends it a sense of mystery. The design of the DJ’s cabin, the bars and the cloakrooms – entirely in gold – are based on large geometric forms. Spotlights trained on the silvery ventilation ducts create lighting effects that incorporate these tubes into the overall spatial installation.
