Simple Forms of Construction

Simple forms of construction manifest themselves in many different ways. The article on page 1302, for example, describes projects developed by Munich students, who then erected them in Africa with local workers. The Norwegian architects Rintala Eggertsson designed huts for ecotourism in India – huts that can also be used by local people as dwellings. In Western countries, however, strict building regulations make it virtually impossible to create minimal buildings of this kind. Here, low-cost schemes call for an appropriate form of construction and a compact volume.
Even so, sophisticated architecture is still possible under these circumstances, as the examples in this issue of DETAIL show.
