GayMenzel

After studying at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Catherine Gay, who was born in Valais, moved abroad, working for Hans Kolhoff in Berlin and Leslie Gill in New York. Götz Menzel, who grew up in Germany and England, also ventured out into the world, and after studying in Stuttgart and Lausanne joined CDR Studio in New York. Together they returned to Europe in 2005, where they have worked on projects such as the Elbphilharmonie by Herzog & de Meuron. Their lamp designs are now hanging in the stairwell  of the Maisons Duc. In 2009, the couple joined the architectural team of Catherine’s father, Roland Gay, which then became GayMenzel in 2013. Since 2018, Catherine has been Vice-President of the Cantonal Building Commission of Valais. After teaching at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Götz has been Associate Professor at the Hochschule für Technik und Architektur in Freiburg since 2017.
