Sandra Gnigler and Gunar Wilhelm, the founders of mia2 Architektur, attracted widespread attention early on with their unconventional single-family homes in Upper Austria. Most of their buildings engage in sensitive dialogue with existing structures, be it converting an old barn, extending a farmhouse to create a three-sided yard, or adding wooden bay windows. The architects’ philosophy is most clearly expressed in their townhouse on Ledergasse in Linz. They acquired the old building in dilapidated condition and gradually converted it into a gem with both office space and apartments for themselves and their 11 employees. Its refined interior reflects their years of experience in interior design and art installations.
