Two Housing Blocks in Regensburg

The development was inserted in an estate dating from 1925 to increase housing density. From the central courtyard space, which is also used for parking, there is access to the four public staircases and other facilities. All dwellings, including the maisonettes, have a courtyard and a garden aspect. The buildings have a timber frame structure based on a 62.5 cm grid. The load-bearing external wall elements consist of two timber stud skins with an intermediate layer of American oriented strand board as stiffening. The floors are in a timber and concrete composite form of construction. The scheme forms part of a state-sponsored programme for model timber housing. It was erected, with the exception of the foundations, in four months.
