Bicycle chair: Upcycling project by Matthias Kirchner
Kirchner, who has been studying product design at Aachen University of Applied Sciences since autumn 2014, has found an eloquent name for the furniture study he has created out of two old bicycle frames and inner tubes: reTIRE.
Welded bike forks and sections of bicycle frame form the basic structure of the lounger, which features a seat fashioned out of interwoven inner tubes that are sewn into place by hand. Even if reTIRE does not make the impression of a chair, particularly when seen from the side, it is probably a pretty comfortable place to recline due the flexibility of its inner tube seat.
Further discarded bicycle parts can also be welded to the frame to provide the chair with other practical elements, such as a surface for books and magazines. We look forward to seeing what further interesting ideas this young design talent will be presenting.
