Facade that Sends a Signal

With its new customer centre at its Ochsenhausen site in the German region of Baden-Württemberg, a domestic-appliance manufacturer wanted to create a communicative and open meeting place. The design for the building was drawn up by the Zurich-based office Monoplan, who in collaboration with the facade planner IFP Weber developed an glass outer skin for the building that combines the facade and product presentation into a single unit. The glass shell is designed as a double-glazed facade and integrates display cases for displaying items from the company’s product range. Across the entire area from the first floor upwards, therefore, the appliances are presented as an integral part of the facade in 36 glass display cases. These slide forward out of the flat glass surface and are framed by slender double-shell metal frames.
At night the showcases are illuminated, making the facade an eye-catcher that is visible from afar. The double-glazing facade has been executed with a room-side insulating glass layer as triple glazing and an open second skin made of laminated safety glass using Gewe-therm sun triple insulating glass with Gewe-com connect from Schollglas.
