A Completely Lowerable Glass Wall

Drawing: Manufacturer
The maximum viable window area is 25 m2, the effect is probably much greater. The Air-lux brand that belongs to the Swiss metal and facade construction company Krapf, has developed a window that can be completely lowered into the floor. A fixed element, in front of which the slider is parked – as is the case with classic sliding fronts – is not necessary for this. The lowerable window, in which glass thicknesses up to 60 mm can be installed, and which can also be implemented as safety glass with bullet resistance, can be moved automatically. In this regard the lowerable front is on a stable bearing structure that is connected to a counterweight. Through this design measure the element is balanced and it can be moved up and down noiselessly via an electric drive. If there is a power outage the glass front is closed manually. The profiles are manufactured of aluminium, wood and bronze. The patented, inflatable Air-lux seal is another special feature; it rests against the sliding frame with a 100 % seal, and therefore shields the interior from sound, as well as from driving wind or rain.
