A dam good idea? Hotel, Shanghai, China by Atkins.
Proposed for an abandoned quarry near Shanghai, the British firm Atkinshave designed this hotel that will dramatically cling to the steep wall of a disused quarry. The lower floors, containing restaurant and aquarium, will actually be underwater.
The hotel will have 400 rooms and energy is produced by geothermal means. A waterfall is proposed to cascade over the cliff-like façade.
The configuration of the building is reminiscent of a great dam, producing hydro electric power. They tend to be set In places of great beauty. Perhaps combining the two will produce a new and interesting archetype.
