Administration Building in Copenhagen

In 1995, an urban planning competition was held to redevelop a former shipyard site on thesouth side of the Inderhavn with a mixtureof housing (40 per cent) and offices (60per cent). Oriented to the water, the six teeth of the comb-like development contain open-plan andindividual unit offices. The facades are cladwith prepatinated copper, which is contrasted with the areas of glazing. When illuminated at night, the windows createafascinating interplay of warm and coldlight. Between the office tracts are accessroads, and areas of water bridged by wooden walkways. The spine strip contains dwellings, with a closed front on the side facingthe city. The stone-clad facades definethe line of the street.
