Administration Building of Energy Concern in Stuttgart

The façade of this complex adopts a number of elements from the 1970s inner-city office building it was meant to complement. The most striking feature is the coloration, which makes reference to the black anodized metal panels of the neighbouring structure. In the new development, the well-insulated external walls have an outer skin of anthracite-coloured bricks. The areas of brickwork are articulated by horizontal bands of fenestration in the form of “box windows”. These function climatically like conservatories and also improve sound insulation, even when open. They consist of rows of top-hung flaps that can be opened electronically; and an inner layer of double glazing. A sunscreen system was incorporated between the two skins.
