Airport Bus Shelter, Oslo

As part of a master plan for the extension of Oslo’s airport facilities, a parking area with service buildings and space for 6,000 vehicles was commissioned. It is connected with the new airport terminal, roughly a kilometre away, by a bus service. The 11 bus shelters erected on the site comprise three main types and were designed as points of orientation within the sea of vehicles. The tubular steel load-bearing structure is four metres high and enclosed on three sides over the lower half of its height by transparent glass walls. Above this is a white, translucent glass canopy supported by vertical steel sections that allow a maximum surface area to be used for signs and lighting. At night, the shelters form large illuminated landmarks.
