After ten years working in Paris, architect Aline Hielscher returned to her native Leipzig, where she founded her own practice in 2016. She draws on experience gained at French firms such as Dominique Perrault Architecture and Marc Mimram Architecture Ingénierie, as well as her independent work, and combines it with a deep knowledge of the local context in her home region. Her practice focuses on projects that address social issues, transform existing spaces, and promote the sustainable use of buildings, developing site- and project-specific solutions that unite functional aesthetics with precise, carefully considered planning. Particular emphasis is placed on the quality of interior spaces and their relationship to the exterior. One example is the conversion of a former telephone exchange into a daycare centre in Merseburg.
In March, our readers were particularly enthusiastic about the following three contributions: a Residence and Office near Inverness, a School in the Netherlands and the Army Museum in Warsaw.
Aline Hielscher Architektur is renovating a former telephone exchange on the university campus in Merseburg. The colourful window frames on the bright facade are a distinctive feature of the new campus daycare centre.
