It is not known how many times Den Uendelige Bro (The Infinite Bridge) was walked round at Thors Møllebæk river during Denmark's Sculpture by the Sea festival this summer, but on a single Saturday in June no less than twelve couples took their marriage vows on the ring-like artwork.
The opportunity to do so was one that will never return, since the bridge – a particularly impressive and romantic contribution made by Gjøde & Povlsgaard Architecture to the festival – will not be in place for ever.
The circular structure, which has an approx. 60 metre diameter, was assembled on site out of 60 pre-fabricated wooden elements with the help of Aarhus Tech students.
The Infinite Bridge's location is of special significance for the port of Aarhus, being the site of a historic pier where sailboats used to put to sea until the start of the Second World War.
