Alma Hotel Residence, Atacama, Chile by LAN Architects

Images: LAN Architecture For astronomical researchers the Atacama desert in Chile, is about to become considerably more comfortable. LAN Architecture have designed a campus hotel that provides an oasis in the extreme environment. The hotel and recreational complex is partly dug into the hillside and has accommodation over three levels. It is orientated to the west providing spectacular views of Salar of Atacama. A key strategy of the design is to provide transitional spaces between outside and inside, reducing energy needs creating micro-climates and offering a greater variety of interesting spatial situations.
