Aviary in Parc Floral, Orléans
Inscribed within a circle 28 m in diameter, the aviary is divided by a footpath into two symmetrical parts. Visitors thus walk between two independent enclosures and have the impression of being surrounded by the birds. The structures are suspended from two 18-metre-high raking masts that stand outside the enclosures and do not inhibit the flight of the birds. The cable stays form the dividing lines between the internal surfaces next to the path and the external surfaces drawn out to the perimeter of the circle. The veil-like outer skin of the aviary consists of a tensile membrane of stainless-steel wire mesh without a secondary supporting structure. Since it is not welded, the mesh can be stretched into three-dimensional (anticlastic) forms.
