Bathing Pavilion in Tussols-Basil

Set in an extensive park, the pavilion is slightly curved on plan, reflecting the course of the nearby river and the contours of the hillside to the rear. The concave form of this simple structure also serves to give a clear sense of orientation and to define the bathing area on the river bank. In order not to interrupt the spatial continuity of the surrounding landscape – the hills, the waterside meadows and the river – the building was designed in an open form and raised above the ground. An apron platform forms the first step up to the single- storey pavilion, which is set on a second, higher platform. The edge section of the continuous flat roof echoes that of the floor, thus accentuating the effect of an object floating above the ground.
