Bavarian County Council Building in Munich
The Bavarian County Council resides in the centre of Munich’s gallery quarter. The 1950s-era building with its unadorned travertine facade meets neither contemporary technical nor representation requirements. In addition, renovation had to address fireproofing demands and energy efficiency regulations. A gracious foyer with curved glazing now connects the streetside and the courtyard side of the building. Four office levels are situated above it and also replace two existing hotel levels. Staircase and basic structure of the building have been maintained. In the courtyard, tile trim envelops the insulated render reveals and soffits, while the street facade received a new glazed white tile cladding.
