Beaubourg: A Russian sculpture by Nikolay Polissky.

Inspired by an iconic post-modern building of the 20th century, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the artist, Nikolay Polissky, took one of its emblems, a fan head ventilation pipe, as a root around which the Archstoyanie Festival of artists, musicians, acrobats and performers will meet. The installation is located in the Russian Ugra National Park, in a field between Nikola-Lenivets art park and Zvizzhi villages.

The sculpture stands some 22m high and is built around a steel tower. The sculptural forms themselves, are woven from that most Russian of materials, birch twigs. The forms reference the ventilation pipes in the public square of the Pompidou Centre which in themselves are highly sculptural. The idea is to take a bit of the spirit of this special Parisian place, and to grow from it a festival in the Russian countryside with as much variety, art and exuberance . Watch a video about it. Gratitude to Contemporist.
