Blackfriars Station, by Alsop Architects reopens.
Billed as the world's longest solar powered bridge or something as silly, the redevelopment of Blackfriar's Station is completed and it has reopened after 3 years. It was well worth the wait!
Fundamentally an existing bridge has been provided with a new canopy composed of transverse roof strips that gently arch across the tracks and platforms. The strips allow light to enter along the platforms, but they are also clad with PV cells producing a good deal of the energy the station uses. What makes the station really special is that for the first time passengers will enjoy the spectacular views from the bridge across the river and over the city.
I expect a few of the dreamers amongst will miss their trains!
