Landscape of learning: A school in Copenhagen by 3XN.

Buildings in which we learn and develop are undergoing something of a rethink in countries with enlightened attitudes towards education. 3XN architects have designed this school in the Ørestad district of Copenhagen, Denmark, that has an unusually open spatial concept.

Set within a rectilinear external form, there is a large central void surrounded by “learning floors”. Inside the void is a generous sweeping staircase that animates the heart of the school. Rising through the learning floors are a number of “learning Islands” they form meeting, seminar and enclosed class spaces, but on their roofs are comfortable cushions that the students can lay around on during rest periods.

The entire interior space becomes a flowing "landscape of learning".
