Breathing life into an old castle: “Alias” by Miriam Jonas.
Created specifically for the Orangery Schloss , Rheda, Germany, by Miriam Jonas, “Alias” is a sculpture that encompasses both the architecture in which it is set, and the history of the building.
In historic times, the Orangery Schloss was a place where exotic plants and animals were specially grown and displayed in cabinets as curiosities.
With this in mind, Alias is made of transparent PVC and is inflated in a rhythm of 40 second intervals. As air escapes before it is re-inflated, the entire structure appears as though it is alive and breathing.
