Bridge over the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal in Regensburg
Access to this pedestrian and cycle bridge is via ramps and stairs at the two ends. The structural system consists of a single-span girder rigidly fixed with compression and tension connections at the northern end with a portal frame construction, and flexibly mounted at the other end. The bridge has a U-shaped cross-section. The trussed girders forming the sides are inclined outwards by 10°. The structure decreases in height from 5 to 2.70 metres over its length, thereby lending the bridge a dynamic appearance. Framed members at four-metre centres restrain the upper chords of the girders from tipping outwards. The deck is integrated into the structure. The decking, consisting of larch planks, is supported on special steel bearers.
