Building Super-Capitalism

Russia, like China, is booming. In addition to the high-profile city construction sites and international architectural competitions, there is an interesting sub-culture of ambitious projects developing. When speaking of the new openness to the West, historical examples are often considered – Russian architecture having sought interaction with central Europe over an extended period of time. Western influences and their aesthetic expressions, as seen in the present social context of the Russian empire, reveal a country attempting to find its way between redundant structures and compelled progress. Philipp Meuser asserts that between all the numerous investment projects there are in fact niches for young Russian architects, particularly in the field of interior design. Newly created interiors enrich the spectrum of architectural creativity in present day Russia.
