The furniture collection Bundle by Catherine Aitken is inspired by the actions of organization, stacking, rolling - and bundling.London-based furniture and textile designer Catherine Aitken created a furniture collection that is intended to engage people with the design through play and manipulation.
The Bundle Collection is a series of seating objects that explore the idea of the bundle and the action of bundling in order to utilize the concept in furniture: 'As a textile designer I am interested in exploring materials, form and pattern. I like the idea that pattern and the repetition of simple forms can lead to the development of a 3 dimensional product. With 'bundle' collection, I was interested in creating a joining system that utilized a hard and soft element, I wanted the hard and soft elements to be equally dependent on each other.”
For the furniture called the Bench Bundle, the Rolling Stool and the D Stool Aitken made use of the textiles maple dowel, merino felt and waterborn (Kvadrat).
The design of the Bundle collection by Catherine Aitken is set between fun and functionality – “quietly encouraging interaction” as Aitken explains.
