The transformation of Presqu'ile de Caen moved a step closer with the announcement that MVRDV will be the chosen masterplanners. Their vision saw gardens from old factories, and an intensification of the urban area to create an attractive city quarter. There will also be a better connection to the sea.

The winning entry thrilled the judges by extending the outline competition area to include the surrounding districts creating a vision for the city they call “La Grande Mosaique".

The highlights of the scheme include: two former factories transformed in to a collection of gardens, several new pedestrian bridges creating a mobility plan, a reconstruction of the city centre, and an improved connection to the sea.

The project will last 10 years or longer.
