Cafe and Exhibition Spaces in Bragança
The roof of this pavilion serves primarily as a public sidewalk. A series of ramps links the river level to this Portuguese city’s historic centre and invites pedestrians to stop and enjoy the views. Inside there are objects, videos and computer games for children on the environment and renewable energy. Computer-controlled LED lamps are integrated in the extremely slender, stainless-steel mullions on the transverse facade; the colour and rhythm of the lamps change with the weather. Sheets of pre-oxidized steel behind the southerly glazing absorb the solar radiation entering the cavity. Also in response to the weather, the warmed air between the glass and steel is either directed into the interior or expelled.
