Call for entries: Architectural Award “Building-Integrated Solar Technology 2017“

For the seventh time since 2000, the Bavarian Association for the Promotion of Solar Energy (SeV Bayern) is holding its award „Building-Integrated Solar Technology“ this year. What started as a modest event with 16 participants in 2000 has meanwhile developed to a major international competition that, in its last edition in 2014, attracted over 150 submissions from 21 countries. There is no doubt that photovoltaics and solar thermal installations have developed into an indispensable element of energy-efficient architecture. Yet their visible (and aesthetically appealing) integration into the building envelope is still a relatively rare sight.

To change this – and to increase public acceptance for building-integrated solar technology - is one of the goals that the SeV pursues with its award. All architects, owners/operators and solar technology companies with at least one solar power system are entitled to enter – whether the solar system is for private, commercial, industrial or public purposes. Only systems that form a substantial part of the building will be taken into consideration. The system must produce a suitable amount of solar powered thermal and/or electrical energy, and this must be illustrated. The system must have gone into operation, i.e. supplied the first provable energy, within the period from 1st January 2014 to 30th June 2017.

Deadline for submitting entry requirements is July 31, 2017. The 1st prize is 15,000 Euro, commendation awards are totalling 10,000 Euro, a students award is 2.000 Euro.

Entry requirements can be downloaded at www.sev-bayern.de.
