Chapel in Tirschenreuth
Built in conjunction with a home for senior citizens in the Upper Palatinate, this ecumenical chapel is meant to draw local residents into the lifeof the new community. The plain, cubic form of the chapel is contrasted with that of theold people’s home. The engineering brick walls are articulated by narrow recessed windows extending over the full height of thefacade. Strips of milk-glass set over the openings internally seem to broaden them in appearance and create soft lighting conditions. The spacing of the window slits decreases towards the altar, making this the most brightly illuminated area and the focal point of the chapel. The walls are finished internally with shimmering aluminium paint and seem to cometo life in this unusual lighting mood.
