The Poncelet Cheese Bar, a gastro-pub in Madrid, might just set a new trend: It is all about cheese.
Multi-disciplinary Madrid-based design firm Gabriel Corchero Studio created the Poncelet Cheese Bar in Madrid, which opened this fall.
Gabriel Corchero Studio was commissioned to create a gastro pub that would first of all reflect the owner’s desire to care for nature by introducing environmentally friendly material. Secondly the designers were asked to create a concept for the interior and product design, corporate identity, packaging, web creation and art direction that would be centered on cheese.
The designers of Gabriel Corchero Studio choose to reflect the corporate identity of the bar to passersby and diners: They choose to clad its exterior façade in planks of cedar wood that were cut in shapes to evoke the topography of the earth on a vertical plane in order to give the exterior a "natural and organic feel". For the same reason - conveying a natural atmosphere - the designers installed at one side of the bar's interior a "living wall" or "green wall", i.e., a wall made of living plants.
The gastro-pub’s furniture was designed by Gabriel Corchero Studio as well: Wooden chairs and bar stools made from chestnut wood and DM veneer treated with a water-based varnish, upholstered in natural fabrics or treated with non-slip white lacquer.
The most important part of the Poncelet Cheese Bar – in terms of cheese - is cheese cellar, made from cedar wood and glass. It is diamond-shaped and equipped with the latest technology to manage temperature and humidity.
Dining tables are placed adjacent to the cellar and are served cheese plates prepared by “Maitres Fromagers” from a sushi bar-like counter.
