City Renovation in Budapest - Dealing with Existing Buildings

The conservation and renovation of historical constructions has become an item of great interest for private associations and trusts since the political and social changes of the 1990s. Since the great wave of privatisation in 2000, an impressive amount of public funding has been made available which is allocated on a competitive basis. Investors have been predominantly interested in the conversion of former residential buildings into high-profile offices or hotels. There are positive examples, however, of the respect some clients demonstrate for the inherent value of various historical constructions. A place of honour, of course, is allocated to palaces of outstanding historical significance. A further encouraging point is the popularity of the new post-graduate course, on the conservation of historical monuments, which is currently being attended by approximately 350 architects.
