Colour in Architecture

The debate about the use of colour in building has a long and chequered history that runs through the 18th and 19th centuries and is related to the contentious question of polychromatic decoration. At the beginning of the 20th century, the whole issue of coloration came to be regarded as an aspect of urban planning and therewith assumed a political dimension. Today, coloration is a topic for discussion, but hardly a matter of dispute any more. New technologies developed in recent years have allowed the application of new colour systems in facade and interior design – at a time when rendering is also experiencing something of a renaissance.
