Competition “Design Plus” has been given a new concept
Two competitions have been combined for Light+Building 2010. Even younger entrants will have their chance.
For 26 years now, Messe Frankfurt has awarded “Design Plus”, which is now established and recognised as a global seal of quality. This competition, which has always been awarded during this world-leading trade show, will be combined with “Lights of the Future”.
According to the director of Messe Frankfurt, Dr. Michael Peters, this new direction has created a higher level of recognition for its innovative and technological solutions – just like energy efficiency.
In the past, the competition “Design Plus” kept the products in the categories “light” and “building technology” separate – this year there will be a horizontal evaluation of all products.
As well as overall conception and practical value, a jury will also be using criteria such as technology, sustainability and design when examining entries. Here, design represents the composition of a product in terms of functionality, innovation and technology.

All Light+Building exhibitors are encouraged to participate. Up-and-coming designers and students have their own category that recognises visionary concepts and solutions from all product areas of this top international trade show.
The German Design Council – the design competence centre at national level – will be judging the contest on behalf of the Messe Frankfurt. The winning products will be displayed in a special exhibition space in hall 5.1.
