Creative conquest: AMMO Restaurant, Hong Kong by Joyce Wang.
AMMO is situated in a former explosives magazine built by the British army in Hong Kong. In this fast growing and changing city it is a culturally and historically significant site.
Joyce Wang has transformed it into a restaurant that recalls its past in its references to military hardware, but also places the space firmly in the heart of elegant and fashionable Hong Kong dining.
The use of copper, brass and leather, in forms reminiscent of guns, straps and belts is cleverly used in a cacophony of lights, chandeliers, tubes, and mesh giving the glittering impression of a regiment of cavalry from the 19th century. On that impression is laid rich woods, fabrics and stone that give a very modern dining experience.
The ceilings are 6m high and have stepped staircase like structures to carry the eye into up into the atmospheric volume of space.
Gratitude to Yatzer.
