Deep Blue: The Abyss Table by Duffy London

The designers from Duffy London experimented with the materials glass, Plexiglas and wood for an entire year before coming up with their design for the Abyss coffee table.
The London studio used a 3D model of a geological marine map to portray the depth of the ocean. As the table’s name suggests, the individual glass layers in various shades of blue create the ‘abyss’ in the ocean’s deep. The table is hand-made and will be produced as a limited series of 25. It is 160 cm long, 80 cm wide and 46 cm high. Christopher Duffy comments: “I noticed how glass darkens when several layers are stacked…I wanted to take advantage of this effect to replicate an actual portion of the ocean floor…”
Designer Christopher Duffy established his London studio in 2002. He studied product design at the University of Brighton.
