The new outpost of Carpenters Workshop Gallery is situated in Paris’ 4th arrondissement - and the debate between art and design continues.
The first Carpenters Workshop Gallery (CWG) was launched by the Parisians Loïc Le Gaillard and Julien Lombrail in London's Chelsea in 2004 – in a time, when spending big on design, or on design-art as it is called, was a rather new concept. As the number of artists grew, so did the diversity of their backgrounds and practices.
In 2008 the Carpenters Workshop Gallery opened a second gallery in London Mayfair and continued to bring a rather new playfulness to the debate between art and design. The works exhibited often reflect a sense of humour and representedan unconventional approach to hybrid practice.
Now Le Gaillard and Lombrail opened a new outpost in Paris with the intention to create a platform for design that meets sculpture and vice versa while following their aim to allow their artists to be in position to always create uncompromisingly and freely
The new 350 m2 CWG Paris is located on the first two floors of a 600 m2, three-story venue. Initially the Paris gallery will feature until November 12 a 'best in show' from its London galleries, including the work of Sebastian Brajkovic, Pablo Reinoso and Vincent Dubourg.
