For a reinforced-concrete building from 1963 with a facade made of prefabricated parts and urgently in need of renovation on the grounds of the Technical University of Munich, Hild und K Architekten developed a new outer skin that itself takes up references to the surrounding buildings on the university's main site as well as to existing buildings around the site. The facade is structured by balustrades and pillars that are aligned with the existing supports. From the second floor upwards, the jutting wall pillars curve back into the level of the balustrades and thus react to the existing steel construction. The result is a strong relief that becomes smoother towards the top. Built in flush with the facade, the windows are integrated into the interplay of projection and surface. A titanium-grey fair-faced clinker layer mediates between the fair-faced bricks of the 1950s and 1960s buildings on the north site and the aluminium facade of the new technical buildings on the south site of the technical university. The inside of the building, which was in need of renovation, was gutted down to the reinforced-concrete skeleton and the building structure thus revealed was optically restored. The bright yellow colour shades of the corridors, seminar rooms and office rooms are aligned with the colours of the surrounding historical building and thus rebuild the bridge to the architectural context of the site.
