Apartment in Barcelona by Raúl Sánchez

In the heart of Barcelona, Raúl Sánchez redesigned a 170 m² apartment using historical elements, contemporary design and lots of color. The floor plan is determined by a 21-m-long walnut front panel along which the various functions have been arranged. While the entirely green kitchen can be closed off with large doors, the niche in the cloakroom remains open at all times. Weekend House near Stockholm by Studio Nāv

The self-sufficient weekend house of a young family is located on the archipelago islet of Lilla Kilskäret. The back wall in glued laminated timber offers the residents just the right amount of privacy. The other three walls are glazed, opening the view to the Baltic Sea. Solely the inserted core in lightweight concrete masonry divides the single room into bedroom, living and dining area. Light-colored birch plywood panels and Douglas fir wood on the inside contrast the typical of the region, dark exterior. Continue reading

Atelier Bruno Gaudin Updates the National Library of France

After 15 years, the renovation work at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France have come to an end. The complex in the center of Paris encompasses around 70 000 m² of floor space, including two large reading rooms. Both reading rooms are connected by a new tract that is also linked to the existing and the new, public main entrance. Twelve new stairways untangle the labyrinthine character. Nowadays, one of the reading rooms is open to the public. Continue reading
