Eindhoven University - Faculty of Architecture

The University of Eindhoven was constructed in 1967, 30 years later it was found to necessary to convert the existing Chemistry Faculty building into one appropriate for Architecture. The load-bearing structure was retained. The concrete structure has been hollowed out in the top four storeys in order to allow for a new atrium space which abuts the facades. The new curtain wall facade retains the verticality of the original structure while contrastingly the glazing alternates between transparency and printed images of a photographic enlargement of scaffolding from the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
