Elastic chair at Budapest Design Week 2011

"Latiska" was featured at the at Budapest Design Week 2011: An “elastic” chair that displays the local color. The chair Latiska by London-based Bulgarian designer Velichko Velikov was on display at the Budapest design week 2011 together with work by other Bulgarian designers.
The chair fits well to the scheme of this year’s Budapest Design Week festival “Couleur Locale”: It is comprised of a circular tubular steel frame that is wrapped with 40 elastic bands of various colors. The color scheme of the elastic belts is meant to be reminiscent of the traditional shades
of Bulgarian tapestry work.
The slogan “Coleur Locale” of the Budapest Design Week 2011 was meant to explore whether national character, “visual DNA” existed in design culture. The intention was to “call the attention to the country's creative industry, to the unique characteristics of its visual culture, to its design values.”
The exhibit featured from 30 European countries three contemporary projects each to give an insight into the specific cultural
and artistic characteristics of each nation. Experts from each country selected the works by the designers based on their ability to convey the local color, tone and aesthetic of their respective home countries.
