Energy-efficient Metal Mesh

The GEM building in the form of a rock crystal consists of several towers which are used as residential and office blocks. The multi-angled glass facade has been clad with ­9500 m² of shimmering GKD’s Omega 1520 metal mesh and thus underlines the crystal character of the building. Inside, the typical transparency of the fabric creates a pleasant, daylight-flooded atmosphere. The metal mesh absorbs sunlight and prevents the building from heating up. The panels, each one 3 m wide and 8.40 m high, were ­deflected horizontally to the ­facade for tensioning at the top and bottom.
