Engineering Office in Copenhagen

Rambøll, an engineering concern with worldwide operations, has erected its new headquarters in Copenhagen for a staff of roughly 1,800. Visible from afar, it is a gleaming free-standing structure in which one sees the sky and clouds reflected. With its angular form, the building follows the lines of the two roads that flank it to north and west. To achieve the requisite transparency and thus ensure a maximum level of daylighting, these facades are fully glazed. For sound-insulation purposes they were designed with a double-skin. With their irregular set-back lines, the south- and east-facing facades are distinguished by perforated sheet-metal panels in the balustrade areas. The building has a reinforced concrete skeleton-frame structure and a functional floor area of 40,000 m2, thereby providing a generous spatial environment.
