Architecture, design or art? Maybe hard to classify, but highly fascinating, this project in Borgloon, located in the Belgian province of Limburg!
Gijs Van Vaerenbergh, a team of two young Belgian architects, Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, designed this 'transparent’ church.
The ten-metre-high building entitled 'Reading between the Lines' is made of 100 layers of weathered steel stacked on top of each other. Gaps between the steel plates make it possible to look right through the walls, as well as allowing sunshine and light to enter. The church may not explicitly be intended for the celebration of Mass, but it certainly is a magical place for contemplation and reflection. Brilliant project!
