Explosive beauty: Photographed by Fabian Oefner.
The experimental Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner is engaged in a concerted research programme that seeks to manipulate paint using different natural forces. The results of his work are unbelievably beautiful. This series is titled “Liquid Jewels”.
I know of no jeweller however, who can produce work so intricate, fluid, and mesmerising, as the forms captured in these photographs.
The natural force used in these experiments is that of air pressure. The structures shown were created by bursting modelling balloons covered with paint. The air inside the balloon expands at an explosive rate, spattering the paint in all directions. Look closely and you can see the paint begin to mix, forming new colours.
The images were taken within a few microseconds of the balloon bursting.
Gratitude to Behance.
