Eye popping: EYE Film Institute Netherlands by Delugan, Meissl Associated Architects.

I have become used to seeing exceptionally expressive architecture in the Middle East and China, but this noticeable piece is to be found in Amsterdam and is set to open on the 5th April. It is EYE: The Film Institute Netherlands. We are told that the design of the building was concerned with 'plural perspective' and 'physiological effect'. The white cladding is apparently a reference to cinematography and the façade, I think that means the glazing, reflects light in constantly changing conditions. The building was designed by the Austrian outfit, Delugan, Meissl Associated Architects to house four screens with some 640 seats, 1200m of exhibition space, and the usual mix of café, shop and other facilities that are now compulsory for a modern institution like this. It will also become an educational institution, but perhaps its most important function is the collecting, archiving and preservation of film for future generations. night shot under construction under construction cladding nearly finished being clad
