Factory with Office in Weilerbach

This block-like structure occupies a site in a peripheral urban industrial area. The façade design reflects the internal functions. The south-facing offices are situated behind a timber-stud wall clad with larch boarding. The north wall, enclosing the workshop area, is supported by a simple steel construction and consists of three storey-height horizontal bands of U-section glass elements punctuated by large vertically pivoting sashes. With the exception of isolated transparent areas, this façade is wholly translucent. The double, interlocking glass elements provide adequate insulation against external temperatures. Direct ventilation is possible. The large areas of glazing facilitate good daylighting and optimum working conditions internally.
