Felt furniture by Ayala Serfaty

The designer Ayala Serfaty's hand-made felt furniture objects are on display at Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York - a sensual experience.The work of Israeli lighting and furniture designer Ayala Serfaty is at display at the exhibition “Ayala Serfaty: In vein” at Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York until December 23. The exhibition presents 16 objects of the latest collection of the designer in which Ayala Serfaty continued her long-term exploration of ancient materials merged with contemporary design.

In her newest work she researched the process of hand-made felt and its application to contemporary furniture. Ayala Serfaty views each object as a canvas, where silk, linen and wools are molded to create seamless upholstered surfaces.

With the combination of the layered fibers that create a dense and intricate skin for each piece of furniture Ayala Serfaty intends to provoke the viewers’ and users’ sensibilities.

The application of hand-made felt to contemporary furniture creates objects with almost emotional expressions - they seem to come to live.
