File-to-Factory Production and ­Expertise

With the Centre Pompidou in Metz and the Hasley Nine Bridges Golf Resort’s clubhouse in South Korea’s Yeoju, the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has created two new roof constructions out of timber. The key to efficiently planning these complex structures is the parametric CAD model with which the construction elements can be automatically generated. With these free forms, Fabian Scheuer, who was part of the digital design »designtoproduction«, the vision of »File-to-Factory« utopia is one step closer to reality. Because it does not rely on standard programs, the development of special software creates a noticeable extra effort.
