Fire Safety Concepts in Steel Buildings

Fire resistance of steel constructions is considered to be one of the largest disadvantages of this type of construction, primarily due to the rheological properties of the material. The alternative treatments available reach far beyond the traditional solutions of coating, cladding and composite systems. How the fire resistance of steel structures can be systematically planned, and under which conditions the requirements can be simplified, are discussed in this article.
